Lexy's 2013 Resolutions

I had every intention of getting these posted before January 5th, but  better late than never right?

2012 was a great year: I hit my goal weight by losing a total of 50 pounds, Carrie & I started the blog, I earned some professional awards, we bought a house with a pool and got to travel to many exciting places.  I also had some setbacks including gaining back 15 pounds that I lost and losing my Grandmother.  But, I have every confidence that 2013 is going to be the best year yet.

Here are the goals I am committing to in 2013

1. Lose 25 pounds and keep it off.
I can't very well keep telling you how to eat healthy & exercise more when I have let some of my weight creep back on my body.  Honestly, it doesn't feel good, doesn't look good, and I have gotten sick and lack the energy that used to drive me. I am tired of my new clothes being too tight and tired of being tired!

2. Commit to keeping my weight under 140 pounds.
I hate putting a number out there for fear that it is too high or too low for you based your body shape, but this is a number that works for me, Carrie has a few inches in height on me, so she has more wiggle room!

3. Participate in a sanctioned 5k, 10k and 1/2 marathon.
I have timed myself in the gym plenty of times in running a 5k and gotten my time lower, and I have planned them, but never actually ran in one, crazy right?

4. Try 1 new recipe a week and at least 2 new foods every month.
My 3 year old niece recently got me hooked on Cutie's.  They are so much easier to peel than oranges, don't have seeds, and taste like candy.  I don't know why or how I went this long without eating but now I can't stop!

You certainly don't have to wait for New Years to make a change, but it's an easy way to keep track of it on the calendar.  Ignore that nagging feeling and commit to your goals right now and put them in writing.  Carrie & I keep each other accountable, and you do the same for us when you read and comment on our posts.  Let us help keep you on track and achieving your goals.  We are doing another contest.  Post your goals here or on our facebook page and we will draw a winner (and be sure to keep up with you on your progress!).  Deadline to enter the contest is January 9th.

  1. Ok, I just have two. First is to lose the rest of my baby weight (25 lbs) by my older son's 3rd birthday (May 29th). Second is to have even less waist from my CSA this year.

  2. Well, I have several resolutions this year, but I will share the most significant ones with my Smart and Sassy Sisters...

    1. Lose 25 pounds by my birthday, May 31, and 50 pounds by Christmas 2013. Accomplish above goal by incorporating consistent exercise and better commitment to eating more fruits, veggies and lean protein - cutting out snacks in bags and boxes.

    2. Establish a new budget and save money for a down payment on a new house. Accomplish above by limiting eating out (which will help with #1), enjoying a stay-cation this year, and not buying things we don't NEED but instead, selling excess stuff to help boost our budget and simplify our lives in the process.

    3. Focus on spending more quality time with my family. Accomplish by scheduling a non-negotiable date night at least once a month with my husband, Bob. Plan specific one on one time with both of our children weekly, doing something they want to do together.

    4. Put together and finalize our last will and testament. Accomplish by making an appointment in January 2013 with a lawyer to get the ball rolling and follow until signatures are made and legal paperwork is finalized.

    5. Connect daily with God. Accomplish by making time to pray AM and PM to express gratitude for my blessings and reading a devotion or passage in the Bible. Will also continue leading a women's Bible study and am in the planning stages for putting together and leading a women's retreat for our church this spring.

    6. Move my blog to a more professional website and distribution method. Accomplish by linking arms with someone who is more skilled in web savvy things. Research the best and most economic web hosting site. Have a logo designed. Write entries consistently on a weekly basis.

Ok, I think that actually covers all my resolutions (once I put them in categories.) Thank you for your encouragement and support. I wish only the best to you both with accomplishing your resolutions and with your blog in 2013!!

  3. Lori,

Your resolutions are so organized and results-oriented. I haven't written anything down yet, but this is as good of place as any to do it! Here goes:

    1. Complete my 15-minute ab workout routine everyday with my husband (a future post perhaps?). We've been doing it since after Christmas and it's not only good for our bodies, but also makes us devote time everyday to spend with one another.

    2. Maintain my weight and try to lose a few pounds (between 5-10 lbs). My weight is in a healthy range and since I am in recovery from an eating disorder, I don't want to start fixating on a number, but I believe this weight range is good for keeping my body healthy and strong.

    3. Develop and maintain a good night time routine. For now, that includes writing daily my line-a-day journal and reading a couple pages of a self-improvement book or scripture before bed. So far, it's been helping me relax and sleep well. I ultimately want to try to get 8 hours of sleep a night, but that's hard to do.

    4. Spend more time with friends and make new ones. So far, I've been doing really well with this. I also want to work toward having more "fitness dates" with friends (like taking a walk/run or doing a yoga class together) healthy friends = healthy friends = healthier life!

  4. I need to work on these to elaborate, but I might as well put the beginnings of them here publicly.

-Spend at least 10 minutes a day to be alone with myself. To reflect, destress and maybe journal.

    -Read one book a month.

-Be able to look back at my week and know I did everything I could to make myself physically better. If I only went to the gym twice, ask myself, did I make those two times really worth it and not wimp out on myself? Did I eat well enough to balance that out?

-Start journaling my food. I dont want to count points or calories just yet, but to just start getting in the habit of it so I can visually see where I go wrong and make notes of how to improve.

Like I said, these are just the beginning thoughts. But I want to have rounded goals, not just ones that focus on my body.

  6. Well, I have a lot of goals for the year, but I am trying to make sure I am making specific, measurable ones so I can keep myself in check. Here are my top three.

    1. Cook four healthy family meals per week instead of always eating on the go. Even the healthier choices aren't really that healthy in a restaurant.

    2. Exercise five times per week, and in turn run 250 miles by Christmas. I already registered for two 5ks to get myself motivated.

    3. This one is hardest for me...I have no self-esteem. None. I focus on the things I cannot do or don't like instead of the things I can do or like about myself and the way I look. This year, I will learn to take a complement. I will allow myself to feel proud when I do something well. When I move down a size, I will tell myself "good job!" instead of saying "well, you still have a long way to go." This is the year I finally learn to love myself. :-)

  8. 1. Take my supplements everyday!
    2. Drink 11 glasses of water a day (got my # here: http://nutrition.about.com/library/blwatercalculator.htm)
    3. Lose my "My job is stressful" weight.
    4. Reduce my stress.
    5. Spend more QUALITY time with my family versus just more time.

  9. It is still 1/9/13 here, but you don't have to include me in the drawing. :-)
